He began to play the guitar and mandolin at the approx. age of 10 years.
From 1925 Roger Chaput first started to appear working as an accompanying guitarist for Michel Peguri, a famous french accordionist on the so-called "Bal Musettes" (french dance-bals held in almost every village at that time), where he supposedly had met with Django Reinhardt at first. Because he had started very early to play music, he also pretty soon discovered his passion for the swing-jazz of the early 1920ies.

The many years' cooperation with Quintette du Hot Club de France and Django Reinhardt surely belonged to his most thrilling life-experiences.
Roger Chaput played during nearly 10 years as a 2nd rhythm guitarist beside Joseph Reinhardt for Django Reinhardt, an great honour to play regularly with the Quintette du Hot Club de France in this function as the only "non-Gipsy" (except Stephane Grapelli).
